The Acolad Academy is now accredited by the Decree on Permanent Education (PE).

As of July 1 2022, the curriculum provided by Acolad’s non-profit training organization in The Netherlands will offer courses with PE-points. Following these courses allows participating translators and interpreters to extend their registration in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv).

Throughout its many years in the industry, Acolad has witnessed how costs and time constraints often become barriers to training for both interpreters and translators. “Through the Academy we strive to remove these barriers and invest in the competence development of all interpreters. We are delighted to be able to provide yet another benefit to the translators and interpreters that enroll in our training programmes,” says Denise Horan, General Manager of Acolad Netherlands.

Continuing education is an integral part of Acolad's quality policy and strategy, fully in line with their ISO9001 certification for quality management. This new accreditation is also a plus for customers, especially in the public sector.

“We have been a supplier to the Dutch government for over 10 years, and this accreditation is another reassuring aspect of who Acolad is as an organization, a partner that has social involvement firmly woven into its DNA,” adds Sylvie Versteylen, Senior Vice President and General Manager Europe at Acolad. “By encouraging interpreters and translators to continue their professional development we make sure we work with the best. Furthermore, we ensure optimal service and performance, as the Academy's training programme meets the needs of the market by guaranteeing the deployment of suitably qualified sworn interpreters.”

About the Academy

The Acolad Academy was launched in 2015 when the refugee influx was at its peak and new interpreters needed to be trained in large numbers.

When the ‘Interpreters in the Future’ programme was launched by the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security in 2016, Acolad (then Livewords) was involved in the various working groups to help think about the new system and the quality and development of interpreters and went on to create its own training programme, while also providing interpreters about existing education opportunities, courses and training from other training institutes.

Today, as an accredited institution, the Academy contributes to the development of the competencies of interpreters and translators while meeting the needs of the central government, supporting the work processes of the immigration and criminal justice chain.
